Do you remember the time not so long ago when you seriously considered installing a “bug shield” on your car since every drive ended with a windshield smeared with insects you met on the highway? Right now, the sky is clear, and even on the most extended trip, multiple hours spent on the road do not produce the same result. The long-time effort of Monsanto to pollute our environment has final effects. I am missing the bugs, Their night swirl around my headlights, The heart-stopping sound when the big one meets the windshield. Oh, I wish I drove slower. Now they are gone. Hardly anything is swimming in the air along my long trip on the highway. Even the mosquitos are missing from the morning scroll among the trees of a nearby forest preserve. What next? Who is next? As the remainder, I created a Bee as a paper pop-up in honor of our gone but not recognized insects/friends. What should I do next? Long lost, from my view, a Grasshopper? Pop-up paper monument? In a Coffin? Are we next?

poplifecards.com or not every pop-up card is cute.
A new website carrying pop-ups is showing on the horizon. After the quick inspection is clear to the viewer that there is no slightest effort to distinguish themselves from the competition. there is NO invention, No dedicated designer behind. Just repetition of medium quality designs so well known from offerings by other sellers. There is no way to distinguish their cards from any other Vietnam (Or China) importer. The generic website offers no info about the people behind it, but after a closer inspection is clear that this is the website of one of the Vietnam-based makers as it points to their pricing policy and the number of rather unimpressive designs. However, there is some extra effort since the manufacturer offers printed cards instead of single-color colored papers used by others. As a result, some of the cards are a little bit neater than the competition.
Allen and Patty Eckman Paper Sculptures
Among the unusual and beautiful Allen and Patty Eckman paper art is in one of the top places. I was looking for some small sculptures, examples of western art I stumbled on a striking image showing an Indian boy. A long time ago I was being myself wannabe in this western art field trying to promote glass Christmas ornaments with western subjects. I was able to sell only glass “Prairie schooners” Cowboys and their maidens and Stagecoaches but never any Indian subjects. Later on, I realized that the reason well embedded in the American psyche. The deep wounds still dividing society, more than 100 years after the carnage. It makes Native inhabitants unable to accept anything from outside as part of the still ongoing invasion and on the other side deep denial of the historical facts, denial of the facts of the real and brutal history, and inability to reconcile. As the naive newcomer, I never realized the deep scars the American psyche trying to promote a naive propagandistic view on US history. The authentic art from both sides is the only acceptable line of communication. That’s why we buy Indians jewelry on the side of a highway in Arizona or pottery in South Dakota and that why I am searching for authentic western art. It brings certain unspoken truths.
